1. Overview & Privacy Principles
At Broken Link Recovery (brokenlinkrecovery.com), we believe privacy is a fundamental human right. Our service is designed to help researchers, developers, students, journalists, and web users recover dead, rotted, or broken links without subjecting them to pervasive tracking, profiling, or intrusive advertising.
We do not require user registration, we do not require your name or email, and we never sell, rent, or trade your data to data brokers or third-party ad networks.
2. How Submitted URLs Are Handled
When you enter a URL into our recovery search box, the URL string is transmitted to our serverless edge workers to perform two functional tasks:
- Live HTTP Probing: Our server initiates a safe HTTP request to the target server to verify its availability (detecting 200 OK, 301/302 Redirects, 404 Not Found, or server timeouts).
- Wayback CDX Index Queries: Our server queries the public Internet Archive CDX server API to look up recorded historical snapshots and timestamps.
We do not build individual user profiles or link queried URLs to individual personal identities.
3. Local Storage & Preferences
Broken Link Recovery does not use third-party tracking cookies or marketing pixels.
We use browser localStorage and first-party cookies strictly to remember your active client preferences (such as your typography preset: Geist, Inter, Editorial, or JetBrains Mono, and your chosen interface language). This data remains exclusively in your own web browser and is never transmitted to external marketing servers.
4. Third-Party Web Archives
Historical web snapshots and reader extractions are fetched via public APIs and archived content hosted by independent digital repositories, principally the Internet Archive.
When you follow links to view snapshots on web.archive.org, your interactions are governed by the Internet Archive's privacy policy and terms.
